Why Avoid Spring Clamps?

Every owner wants his or her car to look or perform better. Some are more than willing to spend significant amount of money to achieve. Others are easily tempted by the promise of affordability. There are many cheap vehicle modification accessories available that promises what seem to be too good to be true. More than quite a few fail to fulfill their promise and can actually cause harm to the vehicle.

One of them are the spring clamps. The clamps are used on the suspension springs to lower ride height. As many automotive experts will tell you, you don't mess with vehicle springs, be it the suspension or brake springs.

The springs and shock absorbers are carefully calibrated to work together for maximum performance and reliability. Using spring clamps to adjust the length of the springs messes up with the balance and can compromise both performance and reliability.

The spring clamps are used for coil springs. The clamps are used to hold and pinch together two or more arcs of the coil springs. Due to how coil springs work and how they are constructed, there is no way to clamp two arcs without creating imbalance that can compromise structural strength and direction of the spring force. It is for this reason that there is no automotive expert would recommend the use of spring clamps.
